Of particular interest to educators and high school students is a recent feature entitled “A Window to the Future” that explored the next generation of visual merchandising designers—students learning their skills in specialized college programs. FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising’s Visual Communications Department Chairperson Lyn Tobman is quoted as saying, “Students come to us wanting to express their art with their hands. This profession gives them a chance to put their creativity and knowledge to work, to make stores come to life.”

Cindy Patino, FIDM’s Visual Communications Assistant Department Chair discusses FIDM having “...helped students find part-time jobs, internships, and real jobs with the likes of Nordstrom, Coach, Gucci, Forever 21 and Saks Fifth Avenue. There are paid summer internships and unpaid academic credit internships throughout the year. (Our students) learn the business of retail in the store.”
