Base Note
Generally composed of musk or animal notes, woody notes, or familiar rich notes such as vanilla. Contains the least volatile constituents of a perfume and is its longest lasting element that gives perfume depth and richness. The base notes remain long after the top and middle notes have evaporated.

 

 

Beeswax
Natural wax obtained from honeycombs or resin from bark. It is a substance secreted on the underside of worker bee abdomens. A thickener, emulsifier, and stiffening agent used in ointments, cold creams, lotions, lipsticks, etc. Sometimes used as a hair removing wax. Also used in candle making.

 

 

Bergamot
An essential oil. A bacterial growth-inhibitor known for its toning, antiseptic, and deodorizing qualities. The bergamot tree is grown predominately in Southern Italy. Aromatherapy use: promotes positive outlook and self-image. A classic ingredient in eau de cologne.

 

 

Beta Hydroxy Acid
Salicylic acid. A topical exfoliate used to slough off and clean the epidermis of the skin and prevent clogged pores, which in turn makes room for the growth of new skin. It is reported to improve wrinkling, roughness, and the mottled pigmentation of photo-damaged skin after months of daily usage.

 

 

Botanical
Refers to products derived from plants. The use of plant extracts and herbs that have their origins in ancient times, with the earliest records originating in China and Egypt. Today many cosmetics include plant extracts, herbs, flowers, fruits, and seed oleates in their ingredients.

 

 

Botox
The trade name for botulinum toxin. Used in tiny amounts, it can temporarily paralyze a muscle and reduce or eliminate wrinkles or frown lines by preventing nerve impulses from reaching the muscle. A medical protein that is injected into facial muscles.

 

 

Brand Equity
The overall value in a brand, based on many attributes such as the brand’s revenue and demand.
