Panthenol
One of the B complex vitamins used in hair conditioners, it fills in cracks in the hair shaft to strengthen the hair, thereby firming up the fiber. Also known as B5, which acts as a penetrating moisturizer.

Perfume
The word is derived from the Latin per fumum which means "from smoke," stemming from the original perfume—incense.

Pigment
Means "color." Refers to the minerals and plant extracts used to give makeup its many different hues. The higher the concentration of pigment, the stronger and more opaque the colors will be.

pH
From "potential of Hydrogen." pH measures the activity of hydrogen ions (H+) in a solution and, therefore, its acidity or alkalinity. This measurement of the acidity or alkalinity of a substance is graded on a scale of 0 to 14. A pH of “7” is neutral; below "7" is acidic; above "7" is alkaline.

Propellant
The primary delivery system, usually a gaseous compound, for aerosol hairsprays and mousses.

Pro-vitamins
Vitamins A, B, and E derivatives used in conditioners to strengthen the hair shaft. Common examples include biotin, panthenon, and tocopherol acetate.
