Baguette
A gemstone, often a diamond, cut in a slender rectangular contour. Petite diamonds cut this way are often used as accents used with a more important stone. A tapered baguette has one short-end narrower than the opposite end, forming the shape of a trapezoid.

Barrel Clasp
A square wire fit into a barrel-shaped tube and locked into place. Some barrel clasps have a supplementary figure-eight security clasp on the side. Some barrels fasten together providing an even more secure jewelry clasp closure.

Bead Chain
Also called the Ball Chain. This type of chain has encircling beads preset along the chain, frequently with some distance between each bead. Sometimes the beads are strung next to each other.

Bezel Setting
Bezel settings represent one of the oldest techniques used in gem settings. This remains a primary and first-rate method of protecting both the girdle (middle) and the pavilion (bottom) of the gemstone from chips and scratches.

Brilliant Cut
Round diamonds with 57 facets (58, if there is a culet). Round brilliant cut diamonds are more brilliant than any of the fancy-shaped stones.

Briolette
Pear-shaped or oval gem, especially a diamond, cut in long triangular facets.
