Karat
The amount of how many parts (out of 24 parts) there are in an item. 24 karat (24K) gold equals pure gold; 18 karat gold is 18/24 gold (75% gold); 14 karat gold represents 14/24 gold (58.3% gold); and 10 karat gold is equivalent to 10/24 gold (41.7% gold). The remaining parts in non-24K gold consist of another metal or mix of metals. 10K gold is the lowest amount of karat that can still be labeled as gold in the United States.
