market research
The systematic acquisition of corporate intelligence including recording, analyzing, and presenting information related to marketing goods and services. Wikipedia says that "marketing research includes the nature of the buying decision, participants, demographics, psychographics, buyer motivation and expectations, and loyalty segments."

 

 

marketing mix
Known as the 4 P's - Product, Place, Price, and Promotion - this basic marketing strategy is used by most retailers.

 

 

markup
The difference between the cost of a product and the retail price charged to consumers. The amount of money added to the manufacturer's cost to determine the final retail sales price.

 

 

merchandise information system
A system that produces, stores, and analyzes information that enables fashion marketers to make decisions about goods for sale to their customers
