Acid Dyes
A dye classification and technique used on wool, other animal fibers, and some manufactured fibers. Acid dyes are widely used on nylon where high washfastness is required; however, they are seldom used on cotton or linen.

 

 

Aesthetics
Textile properties perceived by sight and touch, such as the hand, color, luster, drape, and texture of fabrics or garments.

 

 

Aftertreatment
Any treatment that is completed after the production of the fabric. It refers to treating dyed materials in ways to improve textile properties. In nonwovens, it is the finishing processes carried out after a web has been formed and bonded. Examples of aftertreatment are embossing, creping, dyeing, printing, and softening.

 

 

Albatross
A lightweight wool or wool blend fabric with a fleecy, napped plain weave that resembles the breast of the albatross. Used in negligees, infants´ wear, etc.

 

 

Alpaca
The fine, silk-like, soft, lightweight, and warm hair fiber from the alpaca animal, a member of the South American mountains llama family. True alpaca is expensive and found in white, black, fawn, or gray. Most commonly used in fabrics made into sweaters, dresses, coats, and bedding batting.

 

 

Anti-bacterial Fabric
An innovative fabric with anti-bacterial properties to fight infection-causing health issues. Textiles are free of harmful substances associated with skin irritation and allergies.
