Leading Strings
Cords of fabric often sewn to the shoulders of toddlers’ gowns for parents to guide the child and prevent them from falling. Sometimes used for older girls´ clothing to symbolize the need of their parents’ guidance. 18th century.

 

 

Little Lord Fauntleroy Suit
Before and after World War I, influenced by illustrations from the popular children’s novel Little Lord Fauntleroy, many middle-class boys in America were forced to wear velvet suits with lace collars, sashes and knee-pants, and to wear their hair in long ringlets. The style was considered aristocratic.

 

 

Lorgnette
Eyeglasses held up with a long folding handle, used for viewing objects at a distance and as a fashion accessory for women at social functions when spectacles might appear too heavy. The lorgnette was fashionable from 1893 to the early 1900s.
