Capacity
The maximum number of pieces of merchandise that can be held on a fixture.

Example: The capacity of that nested table is 500 units.

 

 

Classification
Groups of merchandise that have the same end use.

Example: All shorts at a moderate price point are usually merchandised as a classification, not a collection.

 

 

Collection
Merchandise that is presented as part of a fashion group.

Example: One designer’s merchandise is usually grouped as a collection of fashion pieces.

 

 

Colorization
Grouping together merchandise in a formula of color to increase its impact. Various color formulas are used: light to dark, dark to light, colorburst, brights, pastels, etc.

Example: The colorization of the ties on the round table was light to dark within each pattern.

 

 

Concept Fixture
A fixture that is usually placed in a secondary location and designed to match a theme or a décor in a specific department store, usually housing a large capacity of goods.

Example: The t-stands were placed on the aisle and backed up by a row of fourways, which were backed up by several concept fixtures.

 

 

Cube
A square element used as a riser or support for merchandise.

Example: Cubes can be made of a variety of materials such as glass, plexi, or laminated wood.
