Events

Educators are Invited…

Educators can attend a wide variety of events throughout the year that will keep them updated on the fashion and entertainment industries. There are many options to choose from; some are for students and educators, and others are a special treat just for educators.

We host special luncheons with guest speakers and campus tours. Each spring, educators and their students are invited to attend the annual runway show known as DEBUT, where graduating students in Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study Programs show their collections to crowds of thousands at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Opportunities to enjoy and study fashion history exist within the FIDM Museum & Galleries, located on the Los Angeles campus. Not only does the museum host free exhibitions, highlighting garments and accessories from its 15,000-piece Permanent Collection spanning 200 years, it also offers a 1,500-piece Study Collection available for hands-on inspection. Educators and their students are encouraged to make an appointment to examine objects from The Study Collection.

In addition to the many events, there are also important industry events unique to the international fashion community. Trade shows and fashion weeks are held in the style capitals of the world where buyers, designers, manufacturers, and media professionals come together for the business of fashion. Educators may want to encourage their students interested in fashion to read about these events.
